Professor Peres is the Chairman of the department, a position he has held since 1989. He is also a Professor in the School of Photographic Arts & Sciences where he specializes in photography through the microscope, macro photography, and biomedical photography. Michael teaches the classes Survey of Biomed, Applications of Scientific Photography I, II, III, Advanced Biomedical Photography, Photomacrography, and Photomicrography. He also is the advisor to the BPC Bulletin, a quarterly publication by the students who wish to make that their photo concentration project, which is sponsored by the department.

Michael has authored numerous publications, presented more than 125 oral papers and conducted more than 35 imaging workshops all over the US as well as in locations such as Sweden, Tanzania, the Netherlands, Germany, and Australia. These included topics such as imaging through the microscope and the production of QuickTime® VR movies.

Michael has been a member of BioCommunications Association (http://www.bca.org/) for over 28 years and is a member of the Ophthalmic Photographer's Society. He is currently serving as the Chair of the Lennart Nilsson Award Nominating Committee as well as the Coordinator of the RIT Big Shot and Images from Science projects. Michael holds a Master's Degree in Instructional Technology, and Bachelor's degrees in Biology and Biomedical Photographic Communications. He is also a Registered Biological Photographer.

 

Tom Zigon

Tom joined the Biomed department in 1990 after being with the Audio Visual Technology program for 9 years. Tom is an Assistant Professor, and is considered by many to be the resident "Technology Guru". He offers courses in evolving and new technologies and teaches Digital Biomed I & II, Web Publishing, and A-V Production I & II.

Within these courses, Tom covers technical aspects of digital image processing, color calibration and management, QuickTime® VR movies, digital video, script writing, fundamentals of multimedia, web publishing, video streaming, as well as Flash.

Tom also owns Carpe Diem Associates, a company that provides Instructional Technology services to organizations such as Eastman Kodak, NASA, Johnson & Johnson and many others. Tom holds a Master's degree in Instructional Technology and a Bachelor's in Audio Visual Communications.

 

Christye Sisson

Christye Sisson joined the BPC department in 1997 after working as an ophthalmic photographer in Boston, Massachusetts and in Rochester. Christye is an Assistant Professor and teaches Biomedical Photography I, as well as Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced Ophthalmic Photography courses. Christye holds a Visiting Faculty appointment at the Eye Institute, part of the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Rochester.

Christye is active in the Ophthalmic Photographers Society (http://www.opsweb.org/) and conducts workshops in web publishing, digital photography as well as many other evolving imaging and information technology topics. She has also hosted the OPS's CRA (Certified Retinal Angiographer) Exam for several years, acting as both site coordinator and examiner. She also serves on the OPS Board of Certification, which oversees the certification and administration of the Certified Retinal Angiographer's exam and activities and is also the webmaster for the OPS’s website. Christye oversees all aspects of the ophthalmic activities and equipment that the department maintains, which is a career field that provides more job opportunities than BPC graduates.

Christye holds a Master's Degree in Information Technology, a Bachelor's of Science in Biomedical Photographic Communications, and is a Certified Retinal Angiographer.
