Elaine Gonzales is currently a fourth year transfer student and is expecting to graduate in 2009.

Hometown: Chicago, IL

E-mail: emg3147@rit.edu

Liberal arts concentration: She has completed a BA in fine art photography with a minor in history from Columbia College, Chicago, Illinois.

Photo concentration: Ophthalmic photography

Co-op information:She hopes to stay in the Rochester area this summer by pursuing a co-op either at Strong Memorial Hospital or with Retinal Consultants.

Favorite subject to photograph: As a biomedical photographer, she doesn't have one favorite subject. With white light illumination, her favorite images tend to be macro photographs of botanical subjects. With more scientific types of illumination-like fluorescence, polarization or DIC-the resulting quality of light not only reveals information about subjects, but also provides exquisite compositions of abstracted color, texture and shape. She has actually lost track of time when photographing in those conditions: that’s how fascinating the images are.

Interesting facts about Elaine: She celebrated the millennium at a former Rajput palace in the middle of the Rajasthan desert in Northern India.
